  1. The story shows how people have become more untrustworthy over time because, the Man at the gas station says how people used to be able to leave their front doors unlocked by now people can't trust other people.

  2. I think that The Misfit's name alludes to his uncanny nature. He acts cordial and polite, doesn't mind talking about the weather, but he is a misfit. There are pieces of him that don't fit with how he acts.

  3. do you think that the misfit was Bailey? and the grandma was confused?

  4. Trust is a really important aspect to people, that is a really big issue in this story. Has America ever been a place of such trust that we can leave our front door unlocked?

I think the grandma is just old and delusional

  7. Emily- I believe the grandma was not necessarily confused but more crazy

  8. Hey from Florida everyone! I agree with Katie that the misfit is uncanny. But what I was wondering is why did Bobby Lee ask "she was a talker, wasn't she?"

  9. I think that since everyone dies, it shows the good man that is left which is maybe the misfit. But inside each man, there is always that good mad and I think that is what they are trying to look for.

  11. I think this story is meant to show why a good man is hard to find because some men are crazy murdurers, and things arent always as they seem.

  12. Why did the grandmother say to the misfit that he was like Jesus? Was she trying to suck up to him to save her life or is she just nuts?

  13. Do you think the village in this story and the village in the movie represent the same thing?

  14. Grace, I think he was just commenting that she was a talker. That "wasn't she?" was just looking for agreement, not asking a question. :D
Also, what are you doing blogging when you should be at the beach?! Crazy.

  15. Willie-
I don't think she was trying to suck up to him as much as she was trying to say "WWJD" or what would jesus do

  16. willie- i think she was trying to suck up to him so whe would not be killed.

  17. Grace i think that Bobby Lee comments that she was a talker simply to convey to the reader that it really didn't affect them at all to kill the grandma even though she was talking to them. i think that it makes them more evil because they simply don't feel bad about murdering all these people.

  18. Willie, I think she wasn't necessarily com pairing him to Jesus for herself but for the misfit. She was trying to help him realize that he shouldn't kill them.

Why do you think that she said he was a good man?

  19. Well why do you think the grandma was was smiling when she got killed?

  20. Why do you think grandma wanted to go to the woods?

  21. Hi Grace! I think she said that he was a good man because she saw something in him that no one else did, so she saw that good man that was hidden within.
Ps. Get to the beach silly girl!:)

  22. Is the grandmother more concerned with her own personal well-being over the well-being of her family? Is that an attempt to symbolize something?

  23. Why didn’t the grandmother tell her son that the plantation she remembered was in another state not Georgia?

  24. Willie i think that she was afraid of his anger that they went on this whole bunny trail and got in a car accident for no reason.

  25. Trent, I think the grandma wanted to go into the woods to be with the family because she felt guilty that it was her fault they were there for lying to the kids and thinking the house that was really in Tennessee was in Georgia

  26. This story was a different kind of gothic than Edgar Allen Poe and some other stories we read

  27. i think its kinda weird that the grandma didnt want to go to florida cause the misfit was there but then once they were there the grandma found the good in the misfit

  28. I agree with kevin, it is strange that the grandma had a change of heart as soon as they got there.

  29. To me this story feels like a horror film because there is a killer on the loose and the main characters just so happen to run into him. And it was the grandmother’s stupid mistake of telling the Misfit that she recognizes him, and because of it they all die.

  30. I think that this story means more then just a scary story about a loose killer and a crazy grandma. I think that there is something hidden that is hard to find. Here are my thought... So maybe going off of what Emily said earlier, Bailey could be the Misfit and she is just delusional. Also, maybe the Grandma knew that the Misfit would be on the road at that very time and she wanted to murder her family and or maybe die herself. Also, I am confused as to why the grandma said to the Misfit " you are one of my babies" and then right away he shot her. What is she saying? does she mean it literally? Is he actually her son and she has wanted to find him? Maybe she left him at an early age and that is why he is a killer. Maybe she does not mean this literally but instead she is saying that he is still young and vulnerable like a child. He doesn't need to murder people because he is a good man at heart. I have one more question. Did the misfit actually murder his father? If so, why couldn't he remember it?

  31. After reading "A Good Man is Hard to Find" I was left with more questions then an understanding. Was the misfit really the grandmothers child? Would the family have been spared if the grandma hadn't recognized the misfit? Did the misfit actually kill his father? What causes people (like the two men with the misfit) to follow someone who is already on the wrong path? When the grandmother heard the shots in the forrest I think she was too distressed to accept that she knew the family had been killed. The narrator said that she couldn't remember where she had seen the shirt that Bailey had just been wearing. Perhaps the whole event wasn't real and she is just so mentally unstable that she misinterprets things. However, I didn't understand, why was she smiling when she died?

  32. After reading this story I've wondered, was life truly better back then or is it better now? Have we really lost our morals or have they just developed and evolved over the course of time, there is no point in living in the past except to be prepared for the future. The Grandma clearly didn't understand this and took back to the old ways only to end up being killed, times change and so do morals.

  33. Emilyk- I think the misfit may have been bailey because just the fact that the grandmother at the end looked at him and was like your my boy.

I think that the grandmother was trying to suck up to the misfit the whole time by telling him he was a good man and offering him advice, but what i dont get is why she dosent plead for her familys lives instead of just her own. Is it because she thinks the kids have grown to modern and have no respect and their grandmother just didnt care for them? Also I thought that the son may have been the misfit because everyone wanted to go to florida then the grandmother read that the misfit was going there so they instead went to tennesee.
